...Great at telescopes, terrible at grammar...

What's in a name?

Axis Squared?  That doesn't seem right...

What is an "axis"?  Think of a toy top spinning, or the Earth.  They have a single axis, which is a singular word.  A telescope has a Right Accension axis, and a Declination axis, and an Optical axis, and each of those should be at right angles (squared...) to each other one.  So, Axis Squared, right?

Wrong.

The plural of axis is "axes".  The company name should be Axes Squared.  However, if we handed you a brochure or sent you to a web site called "Axes Squared", you'd think we were selling fashionable hand-made Urban Hand Axes.  But we are not selling hand axes, we are selling an axis, and another axis, and a third axis, all squared.  So, We chose to go with "AXIS SQUARED" and risk the anger of English teachers everywhere.

Therefore:
"...Great at telescopes, terrible at grammar..."
